Abstract

Mothers who have given birth experience more emotional crises and mood swings, such as anxiety related to the birthing process, which is exacerbated by prolonged labor, pharmacological effects, loss of energy, and issues related to childbirth and breastfeeding. Research has shown that thought cessation is one of several ways to reduce anxiety in new mothers. Pregnant women can easily use this technique when they want to eliminate negative or unpleasant thoughts by imagining a stop sign (STOP). (Rilyani et al., 2020). This research aims to determine the effect of thought cessation on the anxiety levels of mothers in the Citangkil District, Cilegon City, using a quasi-experimental design with a non-probability sampling technique. The data was obtained from a sample of 38 mothers who answered the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale—Research Short Form—Crises questionnaire. (PSAS-RSF-C). The average decrease in scores before and after the test is 9.21, indicating that 34 (89.5%) postpartum mothers experienced a reduction in anxiety from the anxious category to the non-anxious category, while 4 (10.5%) postpartum mothers remained in the anxious category. The p-value for the thought-stopping therapy intervention (Asymp. Sig 2-tailed) = 0.000 (p) in postpartum mothers at the Citangkil Health Center has a significant effect.
