ASPEK PERLINDUNGAN HUKUM TERHADAP HEWAN YANG MENJADI OBJEK KEKERASAN DI PASAR TOMOHON

Abstract

Animal cruelty occurring at the Tomohon Market in North Sulawesi is a concerning issue that has garnered global attention regarding animal welfare. This research aims to examine the legal protection aspects for animals subjected to violence at the market by analyzing weaknesses in law enforcement, the influence of local culture, and the role of advocacy. The method used is a literature study, collecting data from scientific journals, news articles, and investigative reports from non-governmental organizations such as PETA Asia and Animal Friends Manado Indonesia (AFMI). The results show that although Indonesia has laws governing animal welfare, their implementation remains weak due to a lack of oversight and enforcement in traditional markets. Additionally, socio-cultural factors, such as the consumption of exotic animals considered as part of local tradition, exacerbate the situation. The study also finds that non-governmental organizations play a vital role in raising public awareness and pushing for stricter legal protection. Therefore, stronger efforts are needed from the government, society, and advocacy groups to improve animal protection conditions in Indonesia, particularly at the Tomohon Market.
