PERAN MULTIKULTURALISME DALAM MEMPERKUAT TOLERANSI DAN SOLIDARITAS SOSIAL

Abstract

As an archipelago inhabited by more than 270 million people from various ethnic, religious, racial and class backgrounds, Indonesia faces unique challenges in building a harmonious and united society. In this context, the concept of multiculturalism becomes relevant as a social and normative framework to respond to the dynamics of existing plurality. The research methods used in this study are normative juridical and empirical juridical. The normative juridical approach is used to analyze laws and regulations related to multiculturalism. Meanwhile, the empirical juridical approach is used to examine the application of law in the field. Legislation that regulates multiculturalism is found in Law No. 39/1999 on Human Rights and Law No. 23/2014 on Regional Government. Law No. 39/1999 Article 3 stipulates that everyone has the right to recognition, guarantees, protection, and fair legal certainty, and the right not to experience discrimination. Multicultural societies are often faced with integration challenges, especially in the context of globalization that increasingly connects different groups of people. Barriers in the education system also play an important role in the implementation of multiculturalism. A curriculum that is less inclusive and inadequate in terms of teaching about cultural diversity is often a problem.
