Abstract

Indonesia is a nation rich in cultural diversity, including religion. Indonesia has six religions recognized by the state as well as beliefs from each religion. Every Indonesian citizen has the right to choose and adhere to a religion according to their respective beliefs, this is regulated in the first principle of Pancasila, namely "Belief in One Almighty God". This many religions and beliefs lead to the attitude of "Pluralism", pluralism means an attitude of respecting differences in race, ethnicity, religion, culture, between communities, this attitude of pluralism must be applied in everyday life along with the values of Pancasila in order to create a harmonious social life and mutual respect. This research aims to find out whether the application of the first principle of Pancasila, namely "Belief in One Almighty God", has been implemented well in society so as to create a harmonious environment in a pluralistic life. The method used in this study is empirical normative juridical using laws and field data. The results of this study are that the first principle can be applied to maintain harmony between religious communities in everyday life where Indonesia adheres to six different religions recognized by the state, therefore it is expected to create a harmonious environment in religious pluralism even though there will be challenges faced in maintaining harmony between religious communities. Therefore, the government should be able to ensure harmony between religious communities through a good mediation mechanism so that friction between religious communities can be resolved without siding with one over the other.
