Abstract

Active sentences have become a crucial element in news reporting in today’s digital newspaper era. This study investigates the use of active sentences in the context of online news, focusing on clarity, accuracy, and reader engagement. The discussion includes the definition of active sentences, their comparison with passive sentences, and their implications for news writing. This research uses a text analysis approach to explore how active sentences influence readers in understanding and engaging with online news. The findings indicate that the use of active sentences enhances message clarity and can increase reader engagement, making it significant in the context of modern digital journalism. Text analysis methods were employed to explore how active sentences encourage readers to engage more effectively and understand the news better. The results show that active sentences found in this study include 21% intransitive active sentences, 60% transitive active sentences, 6% ditransitive active sentences, and 13% semi-transitive active sentences. The most dominant active sentences in this study are transitive active sentences.
