PERMASALAHAN PEKERJA MIGRAN DI DAERAH PERBATASAN: STUDI KASUS TENAGA KERJA WANITA DI KABUPATEN SAMBAS, KALIMANTAN BARAT

Abstract

The increase in the quantity of TKI (Indonesian workers) who work in other countries is the result of a lack of employment opportunities within the country. This causes many Indonesians to choose to work abroad, including in border areas such as Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. In the West Kalimantan border region, employment issues are increasingly complicated. This is due to many components, one of which is the domestic employment deficit. Information published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in February 2023 is up to 5.4%, facing a decline of 0.38% in comparison with February 2022. Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI ) is firmly determined to maintain the safety of Indonesian migrant workers in Sambas Regency and other districts. Thus, this research can help determine the extent to which the implementation of these regulations contributes to protecting migrant workers, especially female workers in areas adjacent to West Kalimantan. The following studies are categorized as normative juridical legal studies. In this research, analysis was carried out on library materials or secondary data as the main source of information for conducting research. The approach used includes searching and reviewing literature that is relevant to the problem or research material being studied. The results of the research are that 1. The high level of unemployment in the country, limited employment opportunities, and economic developments in neighboring countries such as Malaysia are the main factors influencing the decision of female workers in Sambas Regency to serve abroad. The high level of poverty makes migrant workers an attractive alternative for the residents of Sambas Regency.
