Abstract

Intellectual property rights arising from human actions can be defined as rights owned by someone, either by an individual or by many people or legal entities, to the results of the creation and organisation of thoughts and ideas. Intellectual property rights are divided into several categories that have many opportunities and benefits. Protection of intellectual property rights for plant varieties that have several benefits New plant varieties will receive legal protection. Plant breeding is the process of research and experimentation to identify different varieties. The growth of the IPR system is expected to have an impact on the growth of human resources. IPR is very important for the current economic expansion. The IPR system is very strong in helping the commercialization of discoveries, socio-cultural development, and so on. IPR includes rights to plant varieties; the type of protection that exists in the generic system is called plant variety protection. This system is needed because there are still many types of plants that cannot be included in the IPR system. The enactment of the Plant Variety Protection Law regarding the propagation, distribution, and maintenance of the latest varieties developed through plant breeding The agricultural sector plays a strategic role in the economy of society in Indonesia. The potential for germplasm to produce various types of quality agricultural products is very large. Germplasm resources need to be conserved and utilised as well as possible.
