Abstract

Server rooms are one of the essential infrastructures supporting the operation of information systems and digital services; therefore, the stability of their environmental conditions must be maintained. Undetected temperature increases can affect the performance and reliability of server hardware. Meanwhile, manual monitoring has limitations because it cannot be performed continuously and does not allow administrators to obtain server room condition information when they are in different locations. This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system for detecting excessive temperature in a server room with real-time notification support. The system uses a NodeMCU ESP8266 as the microcontroller, a DHT11 sensor to measure temperature and humidity, and a relay module to control the cooling fan. A passive buzzer is used as a local alarm when the temperature exceeds the 30°C threshold, while the Telegram platform is used to send temperature condition notifications to users via the internet. The implementation results show that the system is able to automatically monitor temperature and humidity and activate the cooling fan when the temperature reaches the predetermined condition. Testing also shows that temperature notifications can be delivered to users through Telegram in real time, enabling remote monitoring of the server room. The developed system can serve as a simple and affordable monitoring and early detection solution to help improve the operational security of the server room. The limitations of this study lie in the accuracy level of the DHT11 sensor and the system’s dependence on a stable internet connection.
