This study examines the use of songs as literary texts in Advanced English learning for Grade XII students at SMA Negeri 3 Jombang. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi structured interviews with teachers and students, classroom observations, and documentation of teaching modules and student works. Data analysis involved reduction, narrative presentation, triangulation, and member checking. Findings indicate that songs when carefully selected and adapted—function effectively as literary materials: they enhance student motivation and engagement, improve vocabulary retention and pronunciation comprehension, and develop students’ abilities to analyze literary elements (e.g., metaphor and theme). Teachers’ song selection criteria include language level appropriateness, richness of literary content/theme, suitable duration, and cultural alignment. Major challenges include varied student musical preferences, limited audio equipment, and restricted instructional time. The study recommends teacher training, provision of audio resources, and integration of song based activities into the curriculum to maximize pedagogical benefits. The results are expected to inform teachers, curriculum developers, and future researchers in advancing song based language and literature teaching practices.
