Shape language is the essence of creating a good character design, much like a narrative message is to an illustration. The main usage is to translate visuals into an impression that fits the character’s role within a story. But not many beginner concept artists are aware of this rule of thumb, resulting in visually appealing characters that may or may not fit their desired roles. But this problem isn’t just limited to human characters, but also mecha characters as well. There are many beginner artists out there who can design a visually pleasing robot, but not a functional one. Thus, this is where the workshop aims to help create a solid understanding on shape design through a lecture as well as a live demonstration with the goal of helping artists create industry quality approved mecha designs.
