Abstract

In business activities, consumers are subjects who need to be protected in carrying out trade practices for the sale and purchase of goods/services. However, in practice, consumers often still experience losses due to defective, damaged, or non-conforming products. This study aims to address challenges and solutions in the context of consumer protection in business law. The method used is a normative empirical method, with data obtained from primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. The results of the study reveal that challenges faced in enforcing consumer protection principles include unequal bargaining positions with business actors, weak law enforcement, and slow regulations in facing the era of trade globalization. When compared with practices as implemented in developed countries such as the United States, the European Union, and Singapore, consumer protection in Indonesia still lags behind in terms of its implementation effectiveness. It is recommended that consumer protection can be optimized through a series of comprehensive strategies that include regulatory reforms, strengthening the role of consumer protection institutions, increasing the firmness of law enforcement, and increasing literacy and awareness among the public.
