Abstract

Disability has a significant impact on the social, psychological, emotional, and physical aspects of an individual. People with disabilities often face limitations in carrying out activities that are generally possible for healthy individuals. Although the number of people with disabilities in Indonesia is increasing, significant academic and career achievements among them are still rare. One factor that can influence an individual's ability to achieve is optimism. Optimism is defined as the belief that good things will happen despite facing difficulties. This study aims to describe how optimism influences the mindset, motivation, and resilience of people with disabilities who have achieved success. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this study explores the experiences of five people with disabilities who have succeeded in various fields. Data were collected through online and face-to-face interviews. The results of the study indicate that optimism plays a major role in supporting the resilience and motivation of people with disabilities. Optimism allows them to face physical and social challenges more effectively. In addition, family and social support are also important elements in supporting their success. This study is expected to inspire people with disabilities to remain optimistic and provide encouragement for the development of inclusive programs aimed at improving their welfare and quality of life
