Abstract

This research aims to analyze online gambling among teenagers in Indonesia and the impact on the application of applicable law. As technology develops over time, it becomes more accessible, especially among teenagers. As a result, it has become easier for teenagers to access illegal things, such as online gambling. This of course has been a concern of the community for a long time because it provides negative things from a social and economic perspective. In Indonesia, there is already a law that regulates gambling which is regulated in the Criminal Code (KUHP) and other regulations that also prohibit all forms of gambling, including online. The formulation of the problem that we analyze is how the results of data recorded by online gambling players among teenagers, what are the relevant laws in applying sanctions to online gambling activities and how efforts can be made by the government and society to eradicate teenagers' involvement in online gambling. This research uses normative research methods through a juridical-normative approach. The research shows that teenagers' involvement in online gambling practices is influenced by various factors, such as the influence of the social environment, economic pressure, and motivation to seek instant entertainment. Although Indonesian law strictly prohibits gambling activities, law enforcement in the digital era faces major challenges, mainly due to weak supervision and limited technology to enforce the rules. Many teenagers lack understanding of the legal consequences as well as the social impact of their involvement in online gambling. Therefore, the results of this study highlight the importance of improving legal socialization as well as education to teenagers on the dangers of gambling. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that there is a need to review law enforcement strategies against online gambling, especially for teenagers, and develop policies that are more responsive to technological developments. The implications of this research are expected to serve as a reference for policy makers in designing more effective regulations and educational programs to protect the younger generation from the adverse effects of online gambling.
