Abstract

Local food, including traditional food and regional specialties, has a strategic role in efforts to strengthen the food estate, especially in the consumption aspect. The background to this research is based on food needs and food variety in each region which are increasing due to increasing population. One of the government's missions that is currently being promoted is to develop rural areas which can be achieved through community empowerment to increase productivity and diversity in the use of resources and the living environment of the area. Regarding local food in Kulon Progo Regency which focuses on exploring potential, especially in the use of environmental resources and land owned which can support agricultural productivity in Kulon Progo Regency. This research method is descriptive quantitative with the help of ArcGIS software. The results showed that the food insecurity map of Kulon Progo Regency was included in the safe category. In an effort to develop local food potential, the use of beach sand is recommended.
