Abstract

Makassar city is one of the metropolitan areas and Makassar city has become one of the main destinations for urbanization waves from various regions in South Sulawesi. Garbage is a problem in big cities, waste is also used as a source of life for the poor. The harshness of life in Makassar City that happened to scavengers is evident to the residents of Kampung Pemulung where most of the population work as scavengers. This study aims to find out 1. the form of scavenger resistance and the scavengers' survival strategy at landfills in Makassar City. This type of descriptive research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are carried out using observation, interview, and documentation methods. With a sample of 10 family heads who work as scavengers. Data analysis techniques are carried out by reducing data, displaying data and drawing conclusions. The research results show that: 1. The network of scavenger groups at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) of Manggala District, Makassar City has relationships with anyone as long as it does not harm other parties. They expect mutually beneficial interactions and build trust and reciprocal relationships that can strengthen cooperation between fellow scavengers, stall owners, and the community outside the Manggala District TPA. 2. Trust, there is strong trust between scavengers, collectors, and fellow scavengers. 3. Reciprocity Reciprocity Scavenger groups use reciprocity as a strategy for survival, this will continue in their lives because they need each other.
