To build a road, Indonesia has regulations and guidelines in the planning of pavement structures which are the result of modifications and adjustments from developed countries such as the UK, the United States, and Australia. In Indonesia, the old method used to design the thickness of road pavements is the Pt T-01-2002-B method which originates from AASHTO 1993 and it is modified according to the conditions of various factors in Indonesia. As the times progress, Indonesia has updated the road pavement design method currently used, namely the Bina Marga 2017 method, which is a modification of regulations from AASHTO and AUSTROAD. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the comparison of flexible pavement thickness design between empirical methods, namely Pt T-01-2002-B and Bina Marga 2017 method by varying the CBR value and design traffic load. Then calculate the equivalent pavement thickness using the Odemark method for further analysis in the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modeling in the ANSYS STUDENT 2022 R2 program which aims to determine the stress values that occur in the subgrade. From the stress results it will be known whether the designed pavement thickness meets the permissible stress. From the results of the research conducted, it was found that in each variation of CBR value, the overall thickness of the pavement obtained using the Pt T-01-2002-B method was thicker than the Bina Marga 2017 method. But on the other hand, at 1.5% CBR design, Bina Marga 2017 method produces a much thicker pavement than Pt T-01- 2002-B method. The large difference in pavement thickness between the two methods is due to differences in design parameters and selection of pavement materials. Based on the stress results obtained in both design methods using FEA modeling, it can be concluded that the overall design using the Pt T-01-2002-B method is considered more conservative than the Bina Marga 2017 method. However, in special conditions where the soil with a CBR value below 2.5%, the design using the Bina Marga 2017 method is considered more conservative than the Pt T-01-2002-B method.
