TITIK TEMU NU DAN WAHHABI DALAM PERMASALAHAN BID’AH

Abstract

While the Qur'an and the Sunnah are the primary sources of Islam, Muslims are faced with new issues not fully explained by either group, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) termed bid'ah. The definition of bid'ah itself has not yet found common ground among Islamic groups, ultimately giving rise to debate, particularly between the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Wahhabis in Indonesia. This article aims to examine the concept of bid'ah directly at its source, affirming the views of each group, and seeking possible common ground to mediate their differences. The common ground between the two is that bid'ah is something new in matters of worship (bid'ah diniyyah). Both groups believe that innovation should not occur in matters related to worship. Therefore, the debate that often arises between the two groups is whether the issue is classified as a matter of worship or merely a tradition, which the NU group usually judges as permissible.
