Kinship politics is a new phenomenon in the grand democratic event of Simultaneous Local Elections in 270 regions in Indonesia, even with a trend that is quite significant when reflected in the 2015 simultaneous regional elections. In particular, this article discusses how social capital has a very important role in kinship politics. Kinship politics that occurred in the 2020 Pilkada involved Jokowi's family, namely Gibran in Surakarta and Bobby in Medan. This paper is important to discuss because this topic has a contribution to academic discussion. Some observers judge their victory because of Joko Widodo's high electability so that the popularity of this character is a strong capital to win the competition. The writing of this article uses a qualitative method with supporting literature studies according to the topic. The results of the data analysis show that the trend of kinship politics with social capital is a logical implication of the dysfunction of political parties and the strong pragmatism of political parties in winning electoral contests. The main character of self-perpetuated power and the impact of "name recognition" or "brand name advantage" of political parties and a permissive voting public are also believed to have contributed significantly to kinship politics. In other words, the role of Jokowi's social capital greatly influenced Gibran and Bobby's victory in the 2020 Pilkada. Both of them can be said to have taken advantage of the popularity of Jokowi's big name as President of the Republic of Indonesia. Social capital on the popularity of big family names can be a force to win political competitions.
