This study aims to examine the influence of parenting styles and self-regulation on the independence of children aged 5–6 years in Surabaya. Child independence is a crucial aspect of early childhood development, influenced by both internal and external factors, including parenting approaches and the child's ability to self-regulate. This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The subjects were children aged 5–6 years enrolled in several kindergartens across Surabaya, with a total sample of 200 children selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used included a parenting style questionnaire, a self-regulation scale, and a child independence scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine both simultaneous and partial effects of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The results indicate a significant influence of parenting styles and self-regulation on children's independence (p < 0.05). Partially, both parenting styles and self-regulation contributed positively to the development of independence in early childhood. These findings highlight the important roles of family environment and internal child capabilities in supporting optimal growth and development.
