The copyright infringement case involving PT. Grand Indonesia raises important issues regarding the protection of works of art and intellectual property rights in Indonesia, particularly in relation to the sketch of the Selamat Datang monument created by the late Henk Ngantung. In 1962, the late Henk Ngantung created an iconic sketch of a man and a woman waving, which was later realized in the form of a statue located at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout. This work is known as the Selamat Datang Statue and has been officially registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia with Copyright Certificate No. 46190. This provides strong legal protection for the creator during his lifetime and for his heirs after his death, in accordance with the provisions stipulated in the Copyright Law. The registration and transfer of this copyright was announced with the number HKI.2-KI.01.01-193 on October 25, 2019, which ensures that the work is now under the ownership of his heirs. This study aims to analyze the legal aspects of copyright infringement that occurs and its implications for the protection of artwork in Indonesia, as well as the importance of public and related parties' understanding of copyright to prevent similar infringements in the future. Thus, it is hoped that the results of this study can provide a significant contribution to strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights in Indonesia, as well as increasing awareness of the importance of respecting artwork and copyright.
