Abstract

Language is a means for humans to communicate and know what the other person wants. The people in Kampung Baru village are predominantly from transmigration from various regions, one of which is the Javanese tribe. The concept of language maintenance has more to do with the view of language in the eyes of its supporting community, a language can survive being used by its speakers because the language is considered practical compared to other languages. The purpose of this study was to identify the maintenance of the Javanese language in the family realm in Kampung Baru Village, Pelalawan Regency. The method used is content analysis. Data collection techniques namely, observation techniques, records, notes, and interviews. The data analysis technique is content analysis. The results showed that the maintenance of the Javanese language occurred in adults (26-45) years and the elderly (46-65) years. Adults (26-45) years and the elderly use Indonesian to children (5-11) years and adolescents (12-25) years to communicate with neighbors who are not Javanese. At the age of adults (26-45) years and elderly (46-65) years, Javanese language maintenance occurs among Javanese tribes. The conclusion is that the maintenance of the Javanese language in Kampung Baru Village, Pelalawan Regency is for communication because they are used to speaking Javanese and do not want to lose their first language.
