Abstract

The Kendheng Dhumik tradition is an integral part of the cultural system of the Kangean Islands community, Sumenep, which is still preserved in traditional wedding processions. This study aims to analyze: (1) the practice and cultural values of the Kendheng Dhumik tradition in marriage; (2) the Islamic law perspective through the 'Urf framework regarding the implementation of Kendheng Dhumik; and (3) the impact of the Kendheng Dhumik tradition on the Kangean community. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with field research method. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that Kendheng Dhumik is a pre-wedding activity in the form of a traditional drum music performance that functions as entertainment while strengthening social bonds. From the 'urf perspective, this tradition is classified as 'urf shahih (valid custom) because no elements contradicting Islamic law were found. This tradition has a positive impact on the social, cultural, and economic aspects of Kangean society.
