Abstract

Reading skills are one of the most important skills to be mastered by students in all learning activities at school because this reading ability is used as a determinant of their success in carrying out learning activities while at school. The problem observed in class II B SDN Sampangan 02 Semarang is that there are students who read by spelling or are not yet fluent in reading. This occurs because of the lack of learning media that is suitable for the teaching and learning process and educators still use the lecture method in their learning without utilizing interesting or innovative digital media so that students are less motivated to learn to read. The purpose of developing Read and Play media based on educational games is to determine the level of validity and effectiveness of Read and Play media based on educational games in improving reading skills in imaginative narrative texts. Researchers use the R&D (Research And Development) research method with a 4-D development model research design or there are 4 stages, namely Define (definition), Design (design), Development (development), and Dessemination (dissemination). The results of the study showed: (1) the validation sheet of the Read and Play media based on educational games by material validation experts and media validation experts, obtained a percentage from material validation experts of 90% and a percentage from media validation experts of 93%, so the Read and Play media met the criteria of very valid, (2) In the analysis of the effectiveness of the Read and Play media, an average N-Gain was obtained in small-scale trials of 0.70, while in large-scale trials an average N-Gain was obtained of 0.82, which showed that the average N-Gain obtained was effective in the high category. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Read and Play media based on educational games to improve the ability to read imaginative narrative texts can be used by homeroom teachers of grade II as a media to help students learn to read imaginative narrative texts.
