Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is a common health problem, especially in students. The causes of this problem is duration or the chair that is not appropriate for a person's body size, which increases stress on skeletal muscles and is a major cause of lower back pain. This study aims to determine the relationship between the length and position of sitting with complaints of NPB in SMA Regina Pacis Surakarta students. The research method used was analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects were 154 students of SMA Regina Pacis Surakarta class XI. Data were collected using the Back Pain Questionnaire (NPB) and observation of sitting position. Data analysis used Chi-Square test and ordinal logistic regression. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between sitting duration and NPB complaints (p<0.05). The longer students sit, the higher the level of NPD complaints. Ergonomic sitting position also showed a significant relationship with NPD complaints (p<0.05). Students with an ergonomic sitting position have a lower level of NPB complaints. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between the length and position of sitting with complaints of NPB in students of SMA Regina Pacis Surakarta. Long sitting time and non-ergonomic sitting position can increase the risk of NPD in students. Therefore, it is important to implement ergonomic sitting patterns and limit sitting time to prevent NPD in students.
