LAPORAN KASUS MENINGOENSEFALITIS TUBERKULOSIS PADA WANITA USIA 75 TAHUN

Abstract

Background: Meningitis is defined as inflammation of the meninges. Encephalitis is defined as inflammation of the brain parenchyma, while inflammation that occurs in the meninges and brain parenchyma is called meningoencephalitis. The most common causative bacteria is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The diagnosis of TB meningoencephalitis is often delayed due to the late presentation of the clinical picture, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates. This case report aims to describe a case of TB meningoencephalitis in a 75-year-old patient. Case Report: A 75-year-old patient in the emergency room at RAA Soewondo Pati Hospital came with complaints of weakness in the left extremity 5 days before entering the hospital. Based on the history, physical, and supporting examination, the patient was diagnosed with TB meningoencephalitis. Discussion: Meningoencephalitis is inflammation that occurs in the meninges and brain parenchyma. Clinical symptoms that can be found are systemic symptoms such as headache, anorexia, fever, apathy, and malaise which usually appear for several weeks before signs of meningeal stimulation such as back and neck pain or stiff neck develop. The treatment that can be given is antibiotics that are appropriate to the causative bacteria and corticosteroids are also given. Conclusion: In this case, the patient was diagnosed with tuberculous meningoencephalitis and received therapy according to the causative agent, namely Moxifloxacin 1x400 mg and injection steroid. The patient showed significant improvement.
