Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection of the bladder and its related structures. The most common etiology of UTI is Escherichia coli and is more common in women than men. Antibiotics are the first line of treatment for UTIs, but for various reasons other therapies are needed such as the use of green tea which has an antibacterial effect. Green tea comes from the unfermented leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and has an antimicrobial effect because it contains polyphenols or catechins. The content of these polyphenols or catechins can fight the bacteria that cause UTIs with various mechanisms. Consuming green tea in a certain amount is known to overcome UTIs. Method: The literature method used is literature review. Literature search using Pubmed, Google Scholar, Medline, Hindawi, Science Direct and Cochrane which have been published in the last 10 years. Result and Discussion: Green tea is a herbal ingredient that can be used to fight various pathogens, one of which is the bacteria that cause UTI. Based on the literature search that has been done, green tea is proven to be able to overcome UTIs with various mechanisms. Conclusion : Urinary tract infection is a complex disease. Based on a literature search that has been carried out, the use of green tea has been proven to be effective in fighting UTI-causing bacteria, especially E.Coli.
