Abstract

Introduction: Menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) is one of the most common gynecological complaints experienced by adolescent girls, leading to decreased learning concentration and high school absenteeism. A non-pharmacological effort to reduce the intensity of this pain is through regular physical activity such as aerobic exercise. Objective: To determine the correlation between aerobic exercise routine and the intensity of menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) in adolescent girls at MTs Putri PUI Majalengka in the Working Area of Munjul Public Health Center in 2026. Method: This quantitative research used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The research population was all students of MTs Putri PUI Majalengka with a sample size of 60 adolescent girls taken using the total sampling technique. The research instruments used an exercise characteristic questionnaire and a pain assessment scale. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test to examine the bivariate relationship. Result: More than half, namely 32 respondents (53.3%), did not routinely perform aerobic exercise. Less than half of the respondents, namely 18 people (30.0%), experienced moderate menstrual pain. Bivariate analysis showed that the routine exercise group mostly experienced no pain (46.4%), while the non-routine exercise group mostly experienced moderate pain (50.0%). The statistical test result obtained a p-value of 0.001. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between aerobic exercise routine and the intensity of menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) in adolescent girls at MTs Putri PUI Majalengka in the Working Area of Munjul Public Health Center in 2026 (p < 0.05). Recommendation: Adolescent girls are expected to routinely perform light aerobic exercise independently at home at least 3 times a week to trigger endorphins as the body's natural pain reliever. The school and the public health center are advised to collaborate in optimizing creative physical activity education to reduce dysmenorrhea cases.
