Indonesia is an archipelagic country consisting of various ethnic groups. Presentation of ethnic-based anthropometric data is very important considering that Indonesia consists of hundreds of ethnic groups. Anthropometry includes various measurements of the human body such as weight, height, skinfold thickness, circumference (head, waist, limbs, etc.), limb length and width (shoulder, wrist, etc.). Arm span length (Arm Span) is one of the best body parameters that can be used as a predictor of height, especially for people with disabilities or lower extremity deformities and who are undergoing treatment in hospital. Genetic, hormonal, age, gender, nutrition, environment and ethnicity are factors that influence height. However, research in Indonesia by linking to certain ethnicities/races is still small. The aim of the study was to determine the estimated height using the span of the arms of students of the Faculty of Medicine of UMI who are of the Bugis ethnicity. This research method is a quantitative research using a cross sectional study design. The research population was all students of the Faculty of Medicine of UMI with the sample being Buginese ethnicity. Data processing is done to determine the simple regression formula. The results of the study show that hand span has a strong correlation with height (R = 0.8). Hand span contributes to body height (R square = 0.714 = 71.4%). The form of the regression equation for the length of the span of the arm to the height of the Bugis people is Height = 41.7 + 0.71 (hand span). Thus, the span of the hand can be used to determine the estimated height.
